Some wounds need special
care to heal. For our patients with those injuries, Morehouse General
offers a complete Wound Healing Program with many specialized treatments
to promote and speed healing. One of these treatments is HYPERBARIC
OXYGEN THERAPY. During this therapy, a patient breathes pure oxygen
for a short time while cradled in a special chamber pressurized to greater
than sea level. This allows greater amounts of oxygen to be dissolved
in the bloodstream and carried to tissues in amounts large enough to improve
healing. There is no discomfort, and patients can rest, watch TV, or sleep
